Panel boxes are useful to structure text on a Confluence page and are very easy to use. Confluence Administrators can configure a set of Panelboxes in the app settings.

The user can simply pick a predefined box - no need to deal with macro parameters to match the cooperate design. These are Advanced Panelboxes, unlike the standard Confluence {panel} macro.

On Advanced Panelboxes

Working with Advanced Panelboxes has the following advantages over standard Confluence panels:

  • The Panelboxes' layout is defined in the Advanced Panelboxes' configuration.
  • Only Confluence administrators have access to the Advanced Panelboxes' configuration.
  • In order to style a Panelbox, an editor doesn't have to use any additional macro parameters.
  • More uniformity throughout the site: The editor just chooses from a set of predefined Panelboxes.
  • If the style of a Panelbox needs to be changed (for example, when the colour scheme of the cooperate design changes), those changes are made once in the app configuration. All the corresponding Panelboxes are changed immediately throughout the whole Confluence instance. No need to edit hundreds of pages!

Using the Panelbox Macro

  1. In the editor, type "{panelbox" and choose "Advanced Panelbox".
  2. In the overlay, choose a predefined Panelbox in the dropdown, for example "red".
  3. You may give the panel a title and decide on its alignment. You may also choose a title icon or insert an image URL.
  4. If you like the preview of the Panelbox, click "Insert".
  5. Back in the editor, fill the Panelbox with content.
  6. Publish/update the page when you are done.
  7. The Panelbox "red" is now part of your page.
